My family have been grape growers for generations tracing back to 1600 with Firmin Dumangin being the first we know to grow wine grapes.  We know that the first generation of winemakers was Hippolyte by an undated letter to French prospects explaining why he decided to become a winemaker and sell Champagne.  We know the transformation was gradual, but the installation of our first press was in 1884, and the 1st Champagne ‘Dumangin’ was sold shortly after that, around 1886. Since then, five generations have been at the company’s helm (me being the 5th).  So that makes Louis de Bôme my great/great/great grandfather.
